Youth Centre Bockelweg Heessen

 

The Youth Centre Bockelweg is located in the heart of the quarter Heessen. It looks back on a long tradition, since 1979.

The Youth Centre Bockelweg hasn’t only an exciting “open area” with a wide variety of offers and courses, but also a manifold quarter-work with lots of co-operation partners.

 

The Youth Centre Bockelweg is an institution with an “open door”, which is funded by a civic sponsorship. The focus within the offers is directed to children and teenager in the age between 12 to 21 years.

The Youth Centre is located in direct distance to three residential areas with a high outlandish share of population. The assessments work in the Youth Centre Bockelweg is affected by the visitors profile with about 75 % of predominant Turkish / Bosnian boys and about 25 % mostly german girls. Most of the visitors derive from families, which are in deficit housing-, working- and living situations.

 

In the pedagogical supervised “open area” of the Youth Centre Bockelweg are all children and teenager up from 10 years welcome. There they are free to kicker, play billiard, to surf the internet, to play a lot of parlour games, eat some delicious snacks and drink some soft drinks, or meet some friends.

The staffs of the Youth Centre Bockelweg are up to apply themselves for the issues of the teenager in the quarter Heessen. Most important is the relationship between the staffs and the teenagers, which should influence their development. In addition to the varied leisure activities and creative offers, they are available for the teenager and in the function of a “Parents school” as well for their parents, in times of problems and questions. They can also help them with applications, homework and public affairs.

 

Some of the special offers and courses of the Youth Centre Bockelweg are

  • ·         Courses from the regular weekly program:

e.g. board-game-liga; drawing, painting, creative hour; cooking-course; box yourself fit; craft- and artcourse; sport for strong boys

  • ·         General homework, main focused and academic focused homework and remedial education
  • ·         Help with applications, help with public authorities questions and counseling as well as help for young adults
  • ·         Offers for girls, especially at the girls-day, with weekly changing program

e.g. wellness-days, contests, trips and bellydance

  • ·         Offers on school holidays:

e.g. the legendary „Hammer holiday fun“, as well as projects and offers in the easter- and autumn breaks

  • ·         The encouragement of young talents, for example youth musicbands and dancegroups, DJ’s, in the form of providing rooms for practice and tutorials
  • ·         Tourneys and challenges:

e.g. song- and dance contests, tourney weeks

  • ·         Daytrips/ weekend activities
  • ·        
  • ·         International encounters, with the ambition to develop the global mobility of teenager, to enlarge horizons and to contract new friendships

 

The quarter-work in the youth centre Bockelweg coordinates and links institutions, diverse youth welfare agencies and youth oriented offers in Heessen. Also they are doing exploration work, which means the establishing of contacts to other teenagers on public places, calles “cliques meeting points”. An example for this is the Half-Pipe-Project at the Dasbeck or the basketball ground behind the Sachsenhalle. The Youth Centre Bockelweg offers in the quarter Heessen youthwork, girlswork and quarterwork and provides rooms.

 

Because of the cooperation with other institutions in the quarter Heessen, an active quarter-network was build, which uses the resources in the quarter for the coordination of the offers to the consumer needs. One example for this kind of network of the institutions is the support with homework called “ABC until Abi”, in the community centre Goldsternstr., in cooperation between the youth centre, the evangelical church Heessen, the migration-office of the German Red Cross Heessen and the Martin-Luther-School, which is focused on children & teenager with russian-german migration background.

 

The co-operation of the Youth Centre Bockelweg with the schools in Heessen is orientated by the living environment of the pupils. Some examples for this are cooperative projects like “Hamm blossoms out”, parents trainings and workshops.

An exemplary model is the cooperation with the Martin-Luther-School, by cooperative projects (e.g. support with homework focused on Muslim girls or Maths and English remedial education), the development of the midday-supervision for the 5. and 6. classes and the soccer training in the gymnasium of the Martin-Luther-School. Other regular arrangements are for example the support for the change-over school to job, fun-courses and the attendance of the pupils parents-teachers meetings in school.

 

The aim of the work is to sustain and strengthen an active quarter-network and an collective responsibility for the needs of children and teenager in the quarter Heessen.
